a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Studies Students select concentrations in American Government, Political Philosophy, Comparative Politics, and International Relations. Students can also choose a Minor in Urban Affairs and a Minor in International Affairs. A Certificate in International Affairs is also available.

The Master of Public Administration (MPA) curriculum is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to become professionally competent leaders of public, nonprofit, and health-based organizations. Ranked in the top 20% nationally, the MPA program is the only program in the University of Alabama System that is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration. Student organizations include: Pi Sigma Alpha (political science national honorary), Pi Alpha Alpha (public administration national honorary), and Political Science Student Club). Scholarships, internships, fellowships, assistantships, and co-op opportunities are available. The Department’s 13 faculty members in political science and public administration are nationally and internationally recognized scholars.

 

About Government

One of the six departments within the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, the Department of Government offers programs of study leading to the Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and the Master of Public Administration degree. The Department offers a comprehensive undergraduate curriculum in Political Science which prepares students for careers in law, public service, politics, public policy analysis, and advanced graduate studies in political science and public administration.
