Robinson

Caroline O. Robinson, PhD, 2007

Caroline Osborne Robinson was awarded the Ph.D. degree in Medical Sociology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in May, 2007.  She also holds a Masters degree in Sociology as well as a Graduate Certificate in Gerontology from UAB.  She worked as a National Institute on Aging (National Institutes of Health) Pre-Doctoral Fellow in Clinical and Behavioral Research in Applied Gerontology at UAB from 2003 to 2007.

While at UAB, she received numerous awards, including the Dean’s Award for Research, UAB School of Social and Behavioral Sciences (2007) and the Outstanding Graduate Student Award, UAB Department of Sociology (2007).  She currently serves on the national Gerontological Society of America (GSA) Emerging Scholars and Professionals Organization Executive Committee (2006-2007), is the GSA Student Paper Award Committee Chair, and is a member of Alpha Kappa Delta and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Societies.  Additionally, she has served as the co-leader of the UAB Religion, Spirituality and Health Research Working Group.  Other awards she has received include:  UAB Graduate Student Research Days Competition Winner (2006 and 2007); GSA Emerging Scholars and Professionals Organization Annual Meeting Poster Award (2005); and the Social and Behavioral Sciences Abstract Competition Award, UAB Center for Aging Annual Meeting (2005).  

Caroline recently started a new position as Manager of the Evaluation and Standards Department at the Center for Domestic Preparedness, a facility of the Department of Homeland Security.  Over 80,000 First Responders (police, fire and city administration) and medical personnel (ER docs, nurses, hospital administration) are trained either at or though the CDP each year in courses designed to prepare critical personnel in the event of chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear or explosive devices attacks. 

Caroline is married to Kevin D. Robinson, who is the co-owner of Southern Carpet and Hardwood, Inc. in Birmingham; they have three children, William, Daniel and Sarah Caroline.
