Haff

Darlene Wright Haff, PhD, 2004

Darlene Wright Haff is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at Birmingham-Southern College. She was recently offered a position as Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at University of Nevada in Las Vegas. Her current research interests include psychosocial correlates of adolescent health compromising behaviors and attitudes. Using conceptual frameworks of social capital and risks/assets, Dr. Haff’s research focuses on how the social environment is associated with violence, substance use, and weight perceptions and behaviors among adolescents.

Her community service includes participation in BSC’s Hurricane Katrina Recovery interim. During the January term, forty students and five faculty members traveled to parts of southern Mississippi and Alabama to make both humanitarian and ecological contributions to stricken areas.

Dr. Haff’s research has been published in journals such as Social Forces, Adolescence, Psychological Reports: Perceptual and Motor Skills, Child Psychiatry and Health Development, Sociological Studies of Children and Youth Annual, European Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, and American Journal of Orthopsychiatry.

She lives in Henderson with her husband, Kevin; daughter, Lyndsey Rae; and hound, Capo.
