Gerald

Lynn B. Gerald, PhD, MSPH, 1997

Lynn B. Gerald, PhD, MSPH is the Assistant Director of the Lung Health Center and Associate Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  She supervises a staff of over 30 clinical research coordinators involved in 20 federally and industry sponsored research protocols.  Dr. Gerald’s research interests include clinical, behavioral and epidemiological research in asthma, COPD and tuberculosis.  She is currently the Principal Investigator of two NHLBI funded R01s.  One study examines the effectiveness of a school based asthma therapy program on asthma exacerbations in elementary school children.  The second study examines the effectiveness of a priority model for use in TB contact investigations.  Dr. Gerald is also the Principal Investigator of an American Lung Association Asthma Clinical Research Center.  She has served on many national and local boards including the National Asthma Educator Certification Board and the American Lung Association of Alabama Board of Directors.  Dr. Gerald has recently won several honors for her research including the UAB School of Medicine’s Max Cooper Award for Research Excellence (2006) and the American Thoracic Society Behavioral Science Assembly’s Junior Scholar Award (2003).  In addition, she was recently chosen to represent the American Thoracic Society at the Japanese Respiratory Society’s meeting in June 2006.
