Dr. Drentea is a full time member of the UAB Sociology faculty. Her appointment began with the 1999-2000 academic year with teaching responsibilities in the area of reseach methods, family and mental health. Professor Drentea's research focuses on on the following topics: (1) debt and stress, (2) aging and mental health, (3) family and equity issues, (4) caregiving, and (5) race and gender. She teaches undergraduate courses in the Sociology of Family and Intimitate Relationships, Sociology of Work, Family and Aging, and Research Methods and graduate classes in Social Gerontology, Gender Inequality and Family and Health.
