SBS Department Honors
UAB offers departmental honors programs for gifted and motivated students. These options are independent of the University Honors Program. Departmental honors programs do not require participation in the University Honors Program.
Disciplinary honors programs for juniors and seniors are currently available in the Departments of Anthropology, Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer and Information Sciences, English, History, Justice Sciences, Mathematics, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, and Psychology. Descriptions of these honors programs are included in this section.
Students not in the University Honors Program who complete a departmental honors program will graduate "With Honors in [Department Name]"; students in the University Honors Program who also complete a departmental honors program will graduate "With University Honors in [Department Name]." Students who complete only the University Honors Program will graduate "With University Honors."
All students who are members of departmental honors programs are invited to participate in the extracurricular activities sponsored by the University Honors Program.
