
Criminal Justice Student Organization (CJSO)
The CJSO is a student-run, department and University recognized organization that sponsors a variety of activities for interested students, including guest speakers and agency tours. The CJSO promotes opportunities to learn more about criminal justice and promotes social interaction among students interested in the fields of criminal justice, criminology, and forensic science. It also provides students the opportunity to interact with professionals working in fields relating to criminal justice, criminology, and forensic science.

GOALS
The goals of the CJSO include:
o Providing professional development for students through guest speakers and tours related to the fields of criminal justice, criminology, and forensic science;
o Promoting educational and social interaction among students interested in criminal justice, criminology, and forensic science; and
o Providing students a forum to discuss issues related to careers, professional development, and the Department of Justice Sciences
MEMBERSHIP
Membership is open to all interested undergraduate and graduate students. As an academic-based organization, however, all members must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher (undergraduate) or 3.0 or higher (graduate)

The CJSO is looking for coordinators/volunteers in the following divisions:

SCHEDULE OF MEETINGS
Meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of each month, starting with the September 20th meeting. All meetings begin at 3:00 p.m. and unless otherwise indicated, are held in University Blvd. Office Bldg. (UBOB), Room 222. Guest speakers are planned; watch for announcements on who will be speaking, the topic, and the date of the meeting.
September 20th: The meeting will feature Dr. John Sloan, Chairman of the Department of Justice Sciences. Dr. Sloan will be speaking on several exciting developments in the department, including a new minor in Legal Affairs and initiatives arising from collaborations with other departments such as Accounting and Information Sciences and Computer and Information Sciences.
October 18th: The meeting will feature Special Agents from the United States Air Force Office of Special Investigations (USAFOSI) responsible for fraud investigations for the Air Force. Agents will be discussing their work and possible career options with their agency.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
-- CJSO members will be participating in "Into the Streets," a volunteer work day sponsored by the UAB Student Leadership Office. All those interested need to meet at the HUC at 7:30 am on Saturday, September 24. Don't forget to wear your CJSO T-shirts!
-- The CJSO will co-sponsor, along with the UAB Chemistry Club, a speaker from the FBI on Tuesday, September 27th. Members are asked to contribute a two-liter bottle of soda for the event. Please bring the bottles to Dr. Kay Morgan's office, Room 217 UBOB no later than Monday, September 26th.
-- CJSO members will be participating in UAB Days on Saturday, October 29th, and we need volunteers to help work the table.
-- CJSO is also planning a tailgate party for the UAB v. UCF football game on Saturday, November 12th, at Legion Field. Watch this space for more details as planning progresses!
