Welcome
Message from the Program Director
It has indeed been an exciting start of the new millennium for many of us – with new hopes, aspirations, and renewed commitments of service to our profession, community and family. As the MPA program at UAB celeberates its 25th Anniversary, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate each faculty, staff and alumni members to help us move up in the national rankings among the best MPA programs in the nation. According to the U.S. News and World Report, we are now ranked 65, up from 91 two years ago. Our health specialty is ranked No. 14 in the nation. This makes us really proud of what we do here at this University and the community around us.
The purpose of UAB’s Master of Public Administration Program is to train men and women for careers in local, state, and federal governmental agencies dealing with critical public policy issues. We are very proud to have graduates across the country as managers and staff analysts in nonprofit organizations, in public affairs divisions of private corporations, in private firms performing "privatized" government functions and in consulting firms. To ensure excellence in public service education the degree of Master of Public Administration at UAB is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration. The MPA Program at UAB is deeply committed to preparing its graduates to play leadership roles in public service. The federal government ranks the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, where the department is housed, among the top 10 in the nation in terms of generating external research dollars
With the leadership of the Department Chair, and a nationally reputable MPA faculty members, we have been reaccridited for the third time to again become one of the top MPA program in the South. Please contact me through email (mpa@uab.edu) or voice (205-934-9680) for any questions about our program. I look forward to serving you.
