Dr. Holly Brasher received her PhD in political science from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2000. She received her MA in political science from the University of Florida in 1996. She served as visiting faculty at Duke University and The George Washington University prior to coming to the UAB. Her research and teaching interests are in the area of American politics, specifically Congress, the presidency, and public opinion about political parties.
Dr. Brasher’s research is motivated by her interest in the relationship between the public and members of Congress. In particular, her research focuses on congressional behavior and how this behavior provides leadership and shapes public opinion. Her work also focuses on the leadership efforts of Congress in comparison with those of the president, and the way in which mass media facilitates or inhibits the leadership of both institutions. She is the author of past and forthcoming articles on interest groups and congressional elections in Legislative Studies Quarterly, Party Politics, American Politics Research and Political Communication and a textbook on interest groups entitled Organized Interests and American Government co-authored with David Lowery, and published by McGraw-Hill. Dr. Brasher’s hometown is Gainesville, Florida.
